Thomas DeLauer is a performance coach and keto diet expert. Hundreds of millions of people use his YouTube videos for tips, tricks, and guidance about the ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, and other fitness topics.
(And, not to brag, but he’s also a huge Jot fan.)
Like many Jot drinkers, Thomas uses Ultra Coffee concentrate as a boost in his pre-workout protein shake and as the secret ingredient in his signature keto breakfast smoothie. This breakfast shake is a keto coffee plus a morning protein shake, “consolidated into one easy-to-make, on-the-go beverage.”
Thomas DeLauer's bulletproof coffee protein shake
As he explains in this YouTube video, the idea behind this morning go-to was simple: to take the best of ketogenic coffee and merge it with the best of a breakfast protein shake.
Thomas always started his day with a keto coffee or bulletproof coffee and a boost of protein. The problem, however, was that the keto coffee had to be hot, but he couldn’t mix protein into hot coffee without it clumping. Powdered collagen would mix into hot coffee but didn’t have the full amino acid profile that he was looking for.
So, Thomas would end up with a keto coffee in one hand and a protein shake in the other.
“The big problem with bulletproof coffee is not that it’s bad, but that you don’t get a complete breakfast out of it.”
And then he discovered Jot.
“I like Jot coffee because it’s super convenient. I highly recommend it,” he says, then he adds MCT oil and avocado oil for adding oleic acid, a great nutritional kickstart to your day. Cacao adds just the right amount of chocolatey flavor without adding sugar, and then chia gives it extra soluble fiber.

“This way, you can actually make a one-stop-shop shake, and you can be on the go.”
Thomas makes his keto breakfast shake vegan, with almond milk and pea protein powder, but he says you can use any type of milk and protein powder that you prefer. And if you’d like to make your smoothie a little sweeter, you can just add monkfruit sweetener.
Here’s Thomas DeLauer’s secret recipe for a keto protein shake with Ultra Coffee concentrate.
Thomas DeLauer’s Keto Breakfast Shake
- 1 c ice
- 1 tbsp Jot liquid concentrate
- 8 oz almond milk
- 1 tbsp MCT oil
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 scoop pea protein powder
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4–1/2 ripe avocado for a more smoothie-like texture (optional)
- 1 tbsp monkfruit sweetener (optional)
To make it, simply put all ingredients in a blender until smooth. For a frappé-type texture, leave out the ripe avocado, but adding the avocado makes it more of a bulletproof coffee protein smoothie, with a silkier texture.
